NABCO automatic doors at the expanded Noi Bai T2 Terminal: The beginning of a touchless journey

In the trend toward smart airport development—where technology is applied to optimize operations and enhance passenger experience—the “touchless journey” model is gradually becoming a new standard at many international airports. Within this context, automatic door systems play a crucial role in shaping passenger flow and experience from the very first point of access. At the expansion project of the International Passenger Terminal T2 – Noi Bai International Airport, NABCO automatic door solutions were selected to meet modern, safe, and synchronized operational requirements. This scope was directly installed and executed by Sonha Auto, contributing to the completion of the terminal’s smart technology ecosystem in line with advanced international airport standards.

Overview of the T2 Terminal Expansion – Noi Bai International Airport

Noi Bai T2 Terminal and the infrastructure upgrade project

Noi Bai Terminal T2 is a key international aviation gateway of Hanoi, serving millions of passengers annually. Since its official commissioning, T2 has played a pivotal role in connecting Vietnam with major global economic and cultural centers. It welcomes millions of international travelers, heads of state, and serves as an important diplomatic façade of the country.

With the sharp increase in international passenger traffic and rising requirements for safety, processing speed, and user experience, expanding and reorganizing terminal space has become essential. The T2 expansion focuses not only on scale but also on a technological transformation, in which automatic entrance solutions are prioritized from the most fundamental infrastructure components.

NABCO automatic doors – The foundation for a “touchless” experience

Why are automatic doors essential in airports?

In the airport environment—where all processes operate continuously, 24/7—every technical detail directly affects the overall experience. Automatic door systems are not merely access control devices; they fulfill multiple critical functions, including:

  • Regulating passenger entry and exit flow
  • Reducing congestion in terminal lobbies
  • Minimizing hand contact, enhancing hygiene and safety for all users (the elderly, children, passengers with disabilities, and those with bulky luggage carts)
  • Ensuring smooth, uninterrupted movement throughout the terminal

Therefore, selecting the right automatic door solution is a strategic factor in the design and operation of modern airport terminals.

As part of the T2 expansion project, 35 sets of NABCO automatic doors were installed, including automatic sliding doors at entrance areas and specialized restroom doors integrated with the dedicated HDS-4P restroom door controller, meeting the airport’s diverse operational requirements.

A key highlight of the T2 expansion is the reorganization of space to optimize circulation and reduce direct contact. NABCO automatic doors are strategically positioned at entrance zones, enabling passengers to access internal functional areas quickly and conveniently.

These doors operate in synchronization with other advanced technologies, such as:

  • Self-service check-in kiosks
  • Biometric identification systems
  • Automated security control gates

This integration creates a seamless passenger journey, with automatic doors serving as the very first step—facilitating faster, safer, and more convenient movement. Continuing to select the NABCO brand during the expansion not only ensures system consistency with previously installed equipment but also supports long-term operational stability.

Sonha Auto – Installer of NABCO automatic doors at the expanded Noi Bai T2 Terminal

In fact, NABCO automatic doors are not a new presence at Noi Bai. Since Terminal T2 officially commenced operations in 2015, NABCO systems installed by Sonha Auto have operated reliably for many years, contributing to the image of a modern and professional international terminal.

Beyond Noi Bai, NABCO doors are also installed at many major airports nationwide, including:

  • Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Terminal T2, Terminal T3).
  • Da Nang International Airport.
  • Phu Bai International Airport (Hue).
  • Cam Ranh International Airport.
  • Pleiku Airport.

In the T2 expansion project, Sonha Auto once again served as the direct contractor for installing the NABCO automatic door systems. Given the specific requirements of aviation infrastructure, the deployment demanded high precision and strict compliance with safety, technical standards, and construction schedules.

With proven experience and the capability to deliver large-scale projects, Sonha Auto continues to affirm its position as a trusted partner in the automatic door sector—supporting key infrastructure developments and contributing to the creation of modern, safe, and user-friendly public spaces.
